Data Sources and Accuracy Policy
How KidGo Nearby collects, verifies and labels open-data family activity recommendations, and what our trust badges mean.
Why this page exists
When you see a family activity recommendation, it comes from somewhere, and we do not hide the source. This page explains what data we use, how we check it, and why some recommendations carry a "Confidence: medium" or "Confidence: initial" badge that you currently see on cards.
Our data sources
Wikipedia provides general descriptions of cities, districts, museums and major family venues. Wikivoyage, a volunteer-written open travel guide, supplies practical city and neighbourhood advice. OpenStreetMap and Overpass supply location, some accessibility tags and place coordinates. A "Open in Google" link on each card sends you to Google Maps for live ratings, reviews, hours and photos.
What each source is good at
Wikipedia and Wikivoyage are strong for well-known venues and are updated often, but small local playgrounds are usually absent. OpenStreetMap location data is usually current and detailed in large cities, but quality varies by area and depends on volunteer contributions. Google is used as an external live check, not copied onto our pages.
What the confidence badges mean
High: cross-checked across multiple sources and reviewed within the last six months. Medium: from a single reliable source, or not reviewed for over six months. Initial: newly added, not yet second-sourced, or partial data. The badge reflects verification depth, not venue quality.
How we verify
For each new city or place we collect source data, cross-check where possible against the venue website or Google Maps, review age suitability and accessibility tags, assign a confidence level, then re-check the highest-traffic cities every three months and everything else every six months.
Use of automated tools
Some explanatory text is shaped with automated tools to make open-source data more readable, but factual fields such as location, address and accessibility are taken directly from source databases and reviewed by an editor. The process is described on our About page.
